A Second Photographer for $22.99
The first 4 years of business, I worked solo... But in 2011, I was pregnant with our second baby, and I needed someone to help haul equipemnt around... and that's when my amazing husband, Joshua joined me in this photo adventure :)
Needless to say, I'm a pretty independant person. I'm definately a "go-getter" and try to work my butt off on your wedding day. But there is a quote I love:
"Work smarter, not harder."
Although I don't mind running (literally) for my brides and grooms on a wedding day. You'll find me running to catch the perfect shot. Or running to grab a family member for a picture. These are justifiable reasons to run.
But there has to be professionalism. Especially during the ceremony. Here's two scenarios:
A gorgeous Catholic church that seats about 400 people OR a beautiful outdoor wedding in a 5 acre park.
In either situation, the thought of me running up and down the isle getting images seems ridiculous. Not only that, it's not professional. At all. And I'd look insane. Not to mention, that would be exhausting.
I needed a way to be in two places at once.
When I photographed Child Care centers, I used a shutter release to take images. This allowed me to talk and laugh with the children, wihtout having to literally be behind my camera.
Lightbulb!! What if I used a shutter release at a wedding? I could take pictures without having to stand behind my camera. The "Work smarter, not harder" motto was in play.
Over the years, I've tried many brands, but my current, and favorite, is the Vivitar Universal Wireless and Wired Shutter Release Remote (http://www.amazon.com/Vivitar-Universal-Wireless-Shutter-Release/dp/B008H6HFZM). It retails for $22.99 and, if you have Prime, it ships for free!
Now, that's not to say, over the years I've had a few "duds" when shooting. But I feel like I've developed a technique that works for me. I look at it like this, the bride+groom know I'm one person. They know I can't be in two places at once. So, when I pull off a photo trick like this, everyone's happy.
^^And, for their album... A little time-consuming editing made this image better without me standing in it!!
